If and when Bobby Ray Parks decides to join the PBA, he should be on top of every mock draft that exists. One would think that this is ridiculous… especially with how he tried to jump from PBA D-League to NBA D-League. But why would it be? Ray Parks is the son of a former seven-time PBA Best Import who became the first Filipino that finished college ball in the Philippines to play in NBA’s developmental tourney!
And if you think about it – Parks is only 24 years old. He has been shrugging the PBA for three years and he’s still five years younger than Calvin Abueva! Moreover, he could join the draft this year especially if NLEX would hold the top spot.
As for Mahindra, they could either claim a young asset in Kiefer Ravena or obtain the services of Christian Standharbinger. I know we have seen his name float in forums and he’s recently contacted for a possible Gilas Pilipinas stint but while Standhardinger may be an old rookie, he could tow Mahindra to a respectable finish. The Floodbusters could get all the shooters and slashers available but without a driving force in the middle, all of their “winning” intentions will be for naught. Just look at how dominant San Miguel is with June Mar Fajardo in the middle or perhaps Ginebra once they regain the services of Greg Slaughter to team up with Japeth Aguilar. Either he could be an inside-outside version of the current residing titans or Standhardinger could be another version of Mike Hrabak.
Now inasmuch as I want to see Kiefer Ravena in a Meralco jersey, I guess he needs to be in a Blackwater jersey. Right now Team Elite is enlisting big time collegiate standouts and just imagine Kiefer combining with Mac Belo and Arthur dela Cruz?
Meralco would then use their fourth pick to snag Jeron Teng. Of all the second generation stars, he looks as if to be the outsider. But perhaps Teng could give Meralco his skills as well as his championship drive to catapult the squad to a title last known to PBA followers when their genealogy is still called the Sta. Lucia Realtors.
Note that I based the picks on pre-draft transactions as well as present season standings. I also think they may or may not take part of the draft. All applications come in at around mid-August so this is why I call this an early mock.
